Evening walk - A Whitbarrow Wander
Cath and Mike Palk, Clare and Mick Fox, Tina and Kevin Ford, Margaret and Roger Atkinson, Val Calder, David Birkett, Fred Underhill, Mike Walford, Frank Haygarth, and Hugh Taylor

Led by Cath and Mike, thirteen members set out from Mill Side and led through the woods to Witherslack Hall. Then up the sloping path and onto Lords Seat where they were joined by Frank. A superb view all round, though most of the fells to the north were covered in cloud. The return route led along the lovely spine of Whitbarrow and its excellent view over the Kent estuary, and back to the cars. A pint in the Derby Arms completed an excellent evening. Thanks Cath and Mike.

Half way there!

As part of the club's 80th birthday challenges, Mick has set himself the personnal challenge of ascending 80 new tops this year. He reached his halfway mark of 40 with an ascent of Mickle Fell, at 2585 ft the highest point in County Durham, on May 3rd.
Well done Mick, and good luck with the next 40.

Similarly, Rose and Paul set themselves the challenge of identifying 80 different birds in one day, with May 23rd being the selected day. They completed the challenge at various sites in Lancashire and Cumbria by actually spotting 85 species. The complete list is here, and a photo of the 80th bird can be seen below - a beautiful avocet complete with a chick. Well done Rose and Paul.

Here is Margaret Parker with Hannah her grand daughter on Rannerdale Knotts as part of the clubs 80 tops challenge. Well done both

Shinscrapers 80 Climbs Challenge

80th Party at High House
The club held one of its 80th celebration parties at High House at the end of the month (the other party will be in Kendal in November). The shots below shows some of the members and guests enjoying the lovely warm weather, and one at the bottom showing some members round the firepit in the evening enjoying a musical session.

Kevin and Tina did Base Brown on the day of the party, and as well as completing the 80 Tops List with the 91st top, they made it a double celebration by making it the last Wainwright for both of them. Well done Tina and Kevin, and well done the club for taking on the 80 tops challenge and completing it with 11 to spare.

Below are Tina and Kevin on the summit of Base Brown.
